Environmental Testing including Dust and Ozone

Our  Facilities  can  simulate  a  wide  variety  of  climatic  conditions  in  a  range  of  environmental chambers; from ozone to weathering to fog testing.

The Ozone Chamber can accommodate both static and dynamic Ozone testing. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM,DIN and BSS

Including: ISO1431-1 Static Ozone, JASO M318 6.3.4

Full range of sand and dust testing using a range of dusts from JIS, ASTM,Def Stan, DO160, Mil-STD-810 to ISO

Salt Spray and Toxic Gases

  • Neutral Salt spray, Acid Salt spray and Copper Assisted Salt Spray are UKAS approved ( check UKAS web site to see which standards apply)
  • ANOTHER NEW SALT SPRAY CHAMBER. Continued investment has seen the installation of another salt spray chamber as part of our expansion of the environmental facility
  • Toxic gasses testing ( UKAS approved) such as Sulphur Dioxide ,Hydrogen Sulphide, Nitrogen Oxides

Salt spray testing is a standard test method used to check corrosion resistance of coated samples. Coatings such as paints and varnishes provide corrosion resistance to metallic parts. The salt spray test is an accelerated corrosion test that produces a corrosive environment for the coated samples in order to predict its suitability in use as a protective finish. Addition of various gasses such as sulphur dioxide can expose the coated samples to industrial or ship stack emissions. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM,DIN and BSS

Standards

ASTM B117 Salt, ASTM B368 Copper salt,BS EN 60068-2-52 Salt,BS EN 60068-2-60 Mixed gas, BS EN 60068-2-42 Sulphure Dioxide, BS EN 60068-2-43 Hydrogen Sulphide MIL-STD 810 Method 509. DEF STAN  00-35 Part 3, DEF STAN 07-55, RTCA DO160 Section 14. BS EN 60721

ASTM G85,A1 acetic acid salt spray test, continuous, A2 cyclic acidified salt spray test, A3 seawater acidified test, cyclic, ASTM G85 A4 Sulphur dioxide (SO2 ) salt spray test, cyclic, A5 – dilute electrolyte cyclic fog /dry test

Kesternich testing is another name for sulphur dioxide exposure testing. There are a number of possible test methods such as DIN 50018 , ISO 3231 and ASTM G87 which are the most commonly used methods.

ASTM B117 and BS EN ISO 9227  are the traditional neutral salts spray testing standards. Also BS EN ISO 9227 Acid Salt spray (UKAS Accredited). BS EN 60068-2-60 Mixed gas also UKAS accredited.

Temperature, Humidity, Ultra-High vacuum

Temperature, Humidity -- Panel Testing

Most of our chambers are programmable for cyclic or static testing. The maximum temperature range is -70 to +1200°C and humidity 0 - 99%RH. The chambers range from small to walk-in type.  Accurate humidity measurement is ensured by the use of hygrometers. Thermocouples  positioned in the chamber and on the test sample, determine the temperature profile.

We are able to undertake a range of pressure testing using both pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Negative pressure (vacuum) can also be applied if required.

All measurement equipment can be  continuously monitored by an independent computer controlled data collection system, and tests can be carried out to most relevant international standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM, DIN and BSS

ULTRA-HIGH VACUUM TESTING Dedicated ultra-high vacuum facility to simulate space and other environments. Evaluation of Product , material and surface coatings.

Fluids Susceptibility Testing-UKAS Accredited

Fluid Exposure. We stock a range of fluids from simulated fuels through to deicer fluids used in aerospace applications. Exposure of products and materials to fluids found in service can ensure their suitability and function. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM,DIN and BSS

Standards

BS903-A16     BS ISO1817     DEF STAN 00 35 Part 3       BS3G 100 Part 2 Section 3.12        Mil-Std-810     RTCA/DO160 Section 11         JASO M318 6.4.4               BS EN 60068-2-74

Cyclic Testing

Most environmental exposures can be cyclic in nature.  Test specimens or products can be transferred from one environment to another both manually and automatically.

Environments such as:-

Pressure, Humidity, Temperature, Fluids, salt spray, Toxic gases ,Thermal shock

This exposure of products and materials to conditions similar to that  found in service can ensure their suitability and function. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM and DIN

Thermal shock, a  range of temperature such as -86 Deg C and +400 Deg C.

Including               ASTM D1183 Adhesives - cyclic ageing
